NEWS:Adamawa State poly registrar defies Fintiri, remains in office despite sack order

The registrar of Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola, Rebecca Sale Kinjir, has disregarded an executive directive by governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri sacking all appointments made by his predecessor, Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow after March 28, 2019.
Governor Fintiri had in his maiden broadcast to the state on June 6, 2019, announced that all appointments made by Bindow after the said date were suspended pending verification of the necessity for such appointments.
The registrar’s appointment was ostensibly hurriedly rushed through by Bindow on April 12, 2019 after INEC had conclusively declared Fintiri as the winner of the 2019 governorship race in the state.
When our reporter visited the office of the registrar Tuesday June 25, 2019 to ascertain whether she complied with the directive of the governor or not, the registrar was seen on her seat performing her duties.
But she refused to entertain questions from our reporter as to why she refused to vacate the office despite the governor’s directive referring our reporter to the rector of the institution who she said was “in-charge” of the institution.

Efforts of our reporter to meet with the rector at his office was not successful as the rector was said to be in marathon meetings.
But a source at the office confided in our reporter that after the said broadcast and receipt of correspondence from the SSG’s office, the rector has communicated the directive to the registrar adding that “I don’t know why the registrar still remained in office.”
Investigation by our reporter has indicated that the rector was hamstrung by the fact that he cannot single handedly effect her sack as the responsibility was the exclusive preserve of the governing council of the institution and presently, the institution has none.
“It was in that respect that the rector wrote a memo to the ministry of higher education telling the ministry of his constraints so that it could wade in to ensure the directive was obeyed. This is all I can tell you on the matter,” the source said.
