The South Africa/Nigeria Semi final's encouter on February 7th,2024 turned out to be tragic in Numan town as youth Corper serving in the slumped shortly before the penalty shoot out.
The Youth Corper identified as Samuel is said to have been from Kaduna state posted to Adamawa State and serving in Numan Local Government Area of the State.
An eyewitness account said “We lost one Nigerian few minutes ago during our victory celebration over south Africa today at our sport viewing center (SVC) here in Numan.
“The corp member who is serving in numan from kaduna has fainted before the kick of the winning goal".
"He died before they could reach General Hospital in Numan, may his soul rest in peace.”
The Doctors however confirmed him death at the General Hospital where he was rushed to for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the NYSC coordinator in Adamawa state Mr. Jingi Dennis in a telephone conversation said " l have received the shocking news of his death last night, I hope to have more details today"
His colleagues who went with him to watch the match confirmed that the late corp member told them that he doesn't like watching penalty shootouts, he then bow his head and all of a sudden he collapsed "
The Police public relations officer SP Suleiman Yahya Nguroje could not be reached to confirm the incident as his number wasn't going through.
