SPEAKER ADHA OFFERS 4 AUTOMATIC EMPLOYMENT SLOTS TO PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES


Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, has offered about 4 automatic employment slots at the House of Assembly to persons with disabilities in the state.
Rt. Hon. Abbas, further said the House of Assembly will direct all Local Government Councils' Chairmen across the state to provide employment opportunities to some of the affected persons.
According to him , the house will pass a resolution to give back the school of persons with disabilities located in Jada Local Government to the state government for proper management.
The Speaker stated this while receiving the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) led by its State Chairman, Sani Sabo, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office yesterday.
He observed with concern the plight of the members of the association and promised to liaise with the executive arm with a view to improving their living standard;thereby, offering to employ 4 members of the association including the interpreter at the house and to detail LGCs to employ more of it members.
Earlier, the Chairman said that there was a law for the establishment of the state indigenous of persons with disabilities right commission, saying that the law was passed by the 6th assembly and was assented to by former Governor Bindow but could not be implemented and called on the speaker to look into the issue.
The Chairman appealed to house to pass a resolution mandating the state and local governments to allocate 10% employment opportunities, empowerment programmes and political appointments to members of the association.
