Governor Umaru Fintiri has pleaded with the federal government to put pressure on the firm, Rhas Nigeria Limited handling construction of Dilchim and Kudzum Bridges in Michika to hasten and complete the projects.
The Governor stated this in an interview with newsmen on Sunday at the Dilchim bridge, when he led the Secretary to the State Government SSG Alhaji Bashir Ahmad and Commissioner for Justice Barrister Afraimu Jingi among others on an inspection visit to the area.
Governor Umaru Fintiri expressed dismay that the delay in the execution of the project has crippled businesses in the area and brought untold hardship to the people of Michika and Madagali who also have been cut off from other parts of the country.
He called on the contractor handling the project to hasten and complete the work so as to ease problems being faced by the people of these communities who have been devastated by the activities of insurgents.
The Governor urged the contractor to speedily provide palliative measures at the collapsed Dilchim bridge so as to provide succour to the people of Michika and Madagali Federal constituency.
In an interview with the site engineer at the Dilchim Bridge, Mr Joshua Yakubu explained that the delay of the project was as a result of the activities of insurgents which has devastated the area.
Mr. Yakubu said that at the moment, they have commenced work in earnest on the site and appealed to people of the communities to exercise patience as very soon the road will be motorable.
Some residents of the communities who spoke to newsmen expressed lamentation on the precarious condition of the bridges and called on government to assist them by ensuring timely completion of the project.
It could be recalled that the Dilchim and Kudzum Bridges were among other bridges bombed by Boko Haram Insurgents and the federal government has awarded the contract for rehabilitation of the bridges and the road to Rhas Nigeria Limited in twenty sixteen.
