The Modibbo Adama University (MAU) in Yola has awarded honorary doctorate degrees to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa'adi and three others.
The other three are Alhaji Muhammad Indimi, a philanthropist; Former Adamawa governor Boni Haruna and technocrat Alhaji Dahiru Bobbo. vice chancellor, prof. Abdullahi Tukur made the announcement at the university's 27th convocation ceremony on Saturday. According to Tukur, the awardees are outstanding Nigerians any university would be proud of. Tukur congratulated the graduates and commended President Muhammadu Buhari for passing the bill to convert the university from a specialized institution to a traditional one in 2021. "I am pleased to announce at this meeting that the traditional status of the university has opened new opportunities for the institution, the state and the region," he said. He said the university has recorded milestones including the Faculty of Law and the reinstatement of some programs that were denied accreditation as well as the conversion of the Federal Medical Hospital, Yola into a teaching hospital. Speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto praised the university for its contribution to the development of education in the country. He congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to show good character. According to him, knowledge without good character is useless. Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in his speech congratulated MAU on the invitation. He also congratulated the graduates and thanked the awardees for recognizing the university for its contribution to humanity.
